CSI HPCC operates on a cost-recovery model. Every user falls into one of four access plans that determine pricing, priority, and how compute time is purchased. Your PI or department typically selects the plan that fits the project budget and workload.
The figures below reflect rates published on the HPCC Wiki. Contact the HPC Helpline or the HPCC Director to confirm current pricing before committing budget.

MAP: Minimal Access Plan

MAP is a yearly subscription that pre-purchases a block of compute time at a discounted rate. Three tiers are available:
TierAnnual FeeIncluded compute
Tier A$5,000 / yrGeneral allocation; no included free hours
Tier B$15,000 / yr11,520 free CPU-hours + 1,440 free GPU-hours for new projects
Tier C$25,000 / yr11,520 free CPU-hours + 1,440 free GPU-hours for new projects

MAP usage rates

ResourceMAP rate
CPU-hour$0.015 / hr
GPU-hour$0.090 / hr
MAP subscribers receive discounted rates versus CODP and are guaranteed capacity on shared partitions. Hours outside the included block are billed at the MAP rate.

CODP: Compute on Demand Plan

CODP has no annual commitment. You pay only for what you use, at a slightly higher rate than MAP.
ResourceCODP rate
CPU-hour$0.018 / hr
GPU-hour$0.110 / hr
CODP is well suited for:
  • New projects exploring the cluster before committing to MAP.
  • Occasional users with low and unpredictable compute demand.
  • Burst usage beyond a MAP allocation’s included hours.

LNP: Lease Node Plan

LNP provides exclusive access to one or more nodes for a negotiated period. Researchers pay a lease fee that covers reservation, power, cooling, and maintenance for the duration of the lease. Pricing depends on node type and duration; contact the Director for a quote.

Condo ownership

Research groups with sustained, heavy compute needs can purchase hardware outright and have it housed, powered, cooled, and administered inside the HPCC facility. Condo owners receive:
  • Highest priority scheduling on their own nodes.
  • Access to the broader Arrow infrastructure (networking, storage, software) for jobs that spill beyond their condo allocation.
Current condo partitions on Arrow:
PartitionOwner groupNotes
partchemChemistryNo time limit; GPU types listed as A100/80 and A30.
partcfdCFD groupNo time limit; GPU type listed as A40.
partsymSymmetry / applied mathNo time limit; GPU type listed as A30.
partasrcASRC / atmospheric sciencesNo time limit; GPU type listed as A30.
partphysPhysicsNo time limit; GPU type listed as L40.
Non-condo users can access condo nodes during idle periods through preemptible jobs. Ask the helpline whether this applies to your project.

General-access partitions

All plans share the following general-access partitions:
PartitionWall-clock limitNotes
partnsf240 hoursAdvanced-tier partition with K20m, V100/16, and A100/40 GPUs listed by HPCC.
partmatlabD240 hoursMATLAB daytime partition with V100/16 and A100/40 GPUs listed by HPCC.
partmatlabN240 hoursMATLAB nighttime partition for CPU-only MATLAB work.
partdev4 hoursDevelopment and short test jobs on a 16-core node with 64 GB memory and 2 K20m GPUs.

Storage pricing

Storage beyond the default free tier is billed separately:
Storage tierRate
Online scratch (first 50 GB)Free for all users
Additional scratch storage$60 / TB / year
Backup storage$45 / TB / year
Archive (tape-class)$35 / TB / year
The default home directory quota is 50 GB / 10,000 files. To purchase additional storage, contact the HPC Helpline with the amount you need and the project it’s associated with.

Choosing a plan

Start with CODP to understand your usage, then move to MAP Tier B or C once you have a budget and know your compute demand. New MAP-B and MAP-C projects receive a block of free hours to get started.
Your PI’s MAP or CODP account covers your usage. You submit jobs under your own username, and hours are billed to the PI’s project. You don’t need your own plan, just an approved account.
Consider LNP (for a fixed period of exclusivity) or Condo (to permanently own your nodes). Both give higher scheduling priority and predictable capacity.
CODP is the right default. Class accounts are provisioned at no cost up to the approved quota; contact the helpline to set them up before the semester.
